Table 7 questions
The question asking about vote in 2004 randomly gave respondents one of two sets of response options:
QUESTION: In talking to people about elections, we often find that a lot of people were not able to vote because they weren't registered, they were sick, or they just didn't have time. How about you--did you vote in the elections this November?
OPTION 1: Simply waited for respondents to answer “yes” or”no.”
OPTION 2: Which of the following statements best describes you: One, I did not vote (in the election this November); Two, I thought about voting this time - but didn't; Three, I usually vote, but didn't this time; or Four, I am sure I voted?

Asked directly after ideological self-placement question above:
Where would you place the DEMOCRATIC PARTY on this scale? Where would you place the REPUBLICAN PARTY on this scale?
1. Extremely liberal

5. Slightly conservative
6. Conservative
7. Extremely conservative
Asked directly after abortion self-placement question from above:
How important is this issue to you personally? EXTREMELY important, VERY important, SOMEWHAT important, NOT TOO important or NOT AT ALL important?
Where would you place GEORGE W. BUSH on abortion? Where would you place JOHN KERRY on abortion?
1. By law, abortion should never be permitted.
2. The law should permit abortion only in case of rape, incest, or when the woman's life is in danger.
3. The law should permit abortion for reasons other than rape, incest, or danger to the woman's life, but only after the need for the abortion has been clearly established.
4. By law, a woman should always be able to obtain an abortion as a matter of personal choice.

Questions are taken from two time periods: before and after the 2004 elections. The “pre” questions were asked from September 7-November 1, 2005. The “post” questions were asked from November 3-December 20, 2005.
